Homework that can't be outsourced.

Schola Nova turns every assignment into a tutoring session. Students earn credit by showing they understand, not by turning in an answer. You see exactly which concepts each student cleared on their own.

Now taking pilot requests from instructors.

Homework was designed for a world without AI.

It assumed the only way to get the answer
was to work it out.

That assumption is gone.

Here is how homework goes now.

A student sits down
and starts working.

Gets stuck
on step three.

Screenshots
the problem.

A chatbot hands back
the finished answer.

Homework done.
Nothing learned.

The moment of being stuck was the whole point.

That is where learning happens, and that is exactly the moment the chatbot takes away.

Now the fastest way to finish is to not learn,
and every student knows it.

The problem isn't the students.

It's the assignment.

An assignment that rewards the answer will be outsourced to whatever produces answers fastest.

So we changed what homework rewards.

When credit comes from understanding instead of answers, cheating stops paying. There is nothing to copy that earns anything.

Meet Schola Nova.
Homework that pays students for understanding, not for answers, so cheating isn't worth the trouble.

Your course. Your methods.

Upload your syllabus, notes, and solution sets. The tutor works from your steps and your notation, so it teaches the way you do. In Work mode it is never given the final answer. It can't hand over what it doesn't have.

Your solution steps become the tutor's map. The destination stays locked.

Students think in ink.

On an iPad with a pencil, or a laptop with a keyboard, students work each step themselves. The platform reads the handwriting, checks the step against your solution, and when they're stuck it offers a hint one rung at a time, up to a cap you set. Four modes, one session:

  • Work. Solve on the canvas, get each step checked.
  • Explain. A Socratic walk through the concept, grounded in your material.
  • Test. No hints. Just the question.
  • Teach. The student teaches a bot, and the bot gets graded.
Hint 1Which rule applies when two functions are multiplied?
Hint 2Write the rule out in general before you substitute.
Hint 3The derivative of the first factor is 2x. Now the second.
StepShown only when the hint cap is reached.

The hint ladder. Every hint used is recorded, so the credit reflects the help.

Credit comes from evidence.

Every checked step, probe answer, and teach attempt is logged as evidence, marked assisted or unassisted. Credit is computed from that log with a rubric you control, and it posts straight to your gradebook. You see which concepts each student cleared on their own, which needed hints, and where the whole class is stuck.

Built to fit the course you already teach.

No new curriculum. No new grading rubric unless you want one. Bring your problem sets and run one assignment.

Your rubric, your weights
Credit blends concepts cleared, problems completed, time on task, and teach-mode passes. Default weights are 40 / 30 / 10 / 20. Change them per course or per assignment.
Canvas, day one
LTI 1.3 launch, deep linking, roster sync, and grade passback. Students click the assignment in Canvas and land in a session.
Students keep their privacy
You see evidence, credit, and teach-mode transcripts. Work and Explain sessions stay private unless the student chooses to share them.
Cheating stops paying
The tutor is given your solution steps only up to where the student is, and never the final answer, so it can't be talked into handing it over. Problems come in verified variants, so copying a classmate doesn't work. And because credit tracks evidence of understanding rather than the answer, a pasted answer earns nothing.
